SKIN CANCER
Years of daily
exposure to the sun and to some extent family genetics can eventually result in
the appearance of skin cancers. Luckily for you, if caught early on, these
lesions can usually be treated with a 100% success without future consequences.
The most dangerous of all skin cancers, Melanomas, are no exception. While our
practice routinely performs surgery for these cancers, it is much preferable to
have a yearly skin check to prevent their development. If you notice any new
moles or a significant change in any of your existing ones, please come in
right away to have a total body exam.
ACNE
An equal
opportunity nuisance to teenagers and adults, to women and men, acne is not
only a skin problem, but can often turn into a psychological hang-up.
Treatments range from topical to oral, depending on the extent of the
condition. Cystic Acne, an especially severe variant, can result in permanent
scarring if not treated early and appropriately. Once the condition is under
good control, Glycolic Peels and Microdermabrasions can bring the final touches
of improvement to your skin, for even, smooth, scar-free appearance.
For those who feel hesitant about the use
of oral antibiotics or Accutane for treatment of Cystic
Acne, now there is a new and successful alternative
available. The Pulse Dye Laser can be used to clear up the
large, red, painful cysts in a series of 3-4 treatments per
area. If there is a flare in areas previously untreated,
those have to be lasered in the same manner. Unlike
Accutane, the laser cannot prevent future cysts, however
eventually the areas repeatedly treated stop developing new ones.
All this is accomplished without risking the potential
side effects of Accutane or long term use of oral
antibiotics. In order to offer this treatment to those who
need it the most, we keep our prices at a special low rate.
Please make an appointment to find out more details.
ECZEMA and ALLERGIC REACTIONS
Some people have
sensitive skin that tends to develop itchy, red, dry rashes. Often, these are
seasonal and appear in patients whose families have members with asthma and/or
environmental allergies. Similar rashes can be caused by contact with irritants
such as jewelry, perfumes and others. In the summer, poison ivy can erupt in a
severe form of eczema with itchy weepy blisters at the site of contact. Dr.
Hellman can help you alleviate your symptoms, so do not hesitate to come in
right away.
 WARTS
These pesky little
viral growths can pose a real challenge before they go away! The earlier they
are treated the better. Topical agents, as well as freezing with liquid
Nitrogen, electrosurgery and best of all, lasers are used to win the war
against the warts. And no, they will not go away by themselves. The
sooner you get started with the treatment, the better. This is even more true
for genital warts which are not uncommon.
CYSTS
These growths are common on the
face, body and even the scalp. They look like little
underground balls and tend to increase in size over time.
Occasionally they can get inflamed and become painful.
However, they can be easily removed with minor dermatological
surgery. If you want to get rid of yours, do not hesitate to
come in for a consultation.
SKIN TAGS AND OTHER BENIGN MOLES
Skin tags are little pieces of
extra skin decorating the neck, underams and other areas of
the skin of many of us. If you have them, you know what they
are! In case you don’t like to keep them, you can get rid of
them easily enough...Similarly, brown moles that are not
cancerous but mar the beauty of your face or body can be
removed without difficulty or downtime. You can go back to
work right away after the treatment.
OTHER SKIN CONDITIONS
There are many other problems that
we treat on a daily basis, such as psoriasis, skin and nail
fungus, hair loss in men and women, and many others. While
this is not the place to go into details of therapies, rest
assured that your problem can be addressed.
