Years of daily exposure to the sun and to some extent family genetics can eventually result in the appearance of skin cancers. Luckily for you, if caught early on, these lesions can usually be treated with a 100% success without future consequences. The most dangerous of all skin cancers, Melanomas, are no exception. While our practice routinely performs surgery for these cancers, it is much preferable to have a yearly skin check to prevent their development. If you notice any new moles or a significant change in any of your existing ones, please come in. Even if no new moles appear, it is prudent to have a total body mole check every year. Once a patient has a history of skin cancer, they should be checked more frequently because of the increased risk of having a new one appear. An ounce of prevention is certainly worth a lot of cure here!
