Are all wrinkles a result of aging?
Not at all. Some wrinkles develop in areas where there is a lot of expression in the face, such as the crows feet around the eyes or the lines around the lips. Others are the long term expression of sun damage, which causes a disarray of the elastic tissue and collagen in the skin that keeps it looking smooth and youthful. Still others are created by gravity, such as the nasolabial lines between the nose and the lips.
What is the best way to treat the different types of wrinkles?

1. Lotions and potions, peels and more
Good skincare products can help treat fine lines and keep the skin healthy and supple. I recommend my Plumping Eye Serum (click here to see our products) for the area under the eyes, and even for the smokers lines on the upper lip. Glycolic peels and microdermabrasions can also be helpful with these early lines.
2. BOTOX® or Dysport®
Expression lines on the forehead, between the brows and the crows feet can be minimized using BOTOX® or Dysport®. These no downtime, temporary quick fixes can make a big, yet subtle impact. For more about BOTOX® or Dysport®, click here.
3. Fillers
Deep lines on the face can be treated wit’s fillers. Fillers do as they say, fill the crevices created by loss of volume and sagging skin. Restylane, Perlane, Radiesse are 3 of my favorite fillers. I use them in the nasolabial folds, corners of the mouth to “turn the frown upside down” and restore the “happy look”. They also can be used to recreate cheekbones, plump up the earlobes and even out the jowls on the lower face. They all induce the body to make new collagen around the site into which they are injected, thus potentially a creating a long-lasting effect.
4. Laser Peels and Skin Tightening
There are many types of facial aesthetic devices – the best ones for wrinkles are aimed at smoothing out the surface of the skin, while stimulating the skin to churn out new collagen. Over time, the thicker collagen works to soften the wrinkles, minimizes pores and help smooth out acne scars. The newest treatment, Fractora, is an RF device that can address wrinkles and tightens skin. Safe for all skin tones, Fractora has been shown to be effective in patients of both light and dark skin.
The Affirm Multiplex is also helpful in tightening sagging skin. After treatment, patients experience facial redness, comparable to a mild sunburn. This typically lasts for about 24-48 hours. The Affirm treatment is often combined with yet another favorite technology, the Refirme ST skin tightening treatment, which can gently lift sagging skin on the face and the neck. This painless, no downtime treatment is a great way to counteract the effect of gravity on the skin.
Last but not least, the UltraPulse Laser peels are a wonderful way to reduce lines, smooth the pores, and even out the complexion. This well-tolerated treatment can be carried out both in a conventional as well as in the new “fractional” manner. The latter utilizes a sieve like laser beam, creating microspots of resurfacing, resulting in a much faster healing of 3-5 days.
