If you suffer from hair loss, you are invited to schedule a consultation with Dr. Hellman. This is a common issue for both men and women, which can often be due to unbalanced nutrition, stress, environmental factors, hormonal levels and other reasons that can be dealt with. In certain cases, especially for men with typical balding patterns, certain medications can help to slow down or even stop the hair loss, but areas of the scalp that already suffered substantial hair loss are unlikely to grow back the hair.

Patients with a receding hairline and balding crowns are often interested in improving the appearance of their hair through PRP hair restoration. Ideally, patients look for a solution that provides natural looking results with the least amount of pain and downtime possible. Dr. Hellman, offers PRP, platelet rich plasma treatment for hair loss, to our patients. PRP technology is considered to be new gold standard to hair restoration and the preferred treatment for women looking to regrow hair. Unlike invasive hair surgeries that require the removal of a strip of skin from the back of your scalp, PRP is better than hair transplant surgery, because there are no scars.

Until recently, many doctors offered only the highly invasive “strip” method in hair restoration procedures. During a “strip” hair transplantation, a large swath of hair and skin is removed from the back of the head, and the wound is then sutured or stapled back together. The hair follicles are then separated from the piece of skin and implanted individually onto the balding areas of the head. This approach typically results in unnatural horizontal scars across the patient’s heads, in addition to being painful and requiring a longer recovery period.

Despite these drawbacks, this method remained the treatment of choice for many doctors because it is quicker and requires less skill than the alternative Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) approach. FUE involves the removal and implantation of each single follicle of hair individually, which results in a natural look with no scarring; however, many doctors were hesitant to offer FUE despite its benefits, as it required extensive and lengthy training and longer surgery times. Since FUE takes more time and training, it is a more costly procedure for the surgeon.

Recently, the world of hair transplant surgery was revolutionized with the breakthrough introduction of the PRP hair rejuvenation. For this treatment, Dr. Hellman uses injections to regrow hair. Our blood is formulated with two vital components, plasma and red blood cells. Plasma is rich with white blood cells and platelets that are filled with growth factors. These growth factors essentially stimulate hair follicles and promote new growth, emulating a natural hairline.
No longer will the patient have unsightly donor site scars from the strip harvest method. Rather than manually extracting each hair follicle, as with a manual FUE procedure, we are now able to quickly and efficiently encourage hair growth with PRP injections. By carefully injecting PRP across the scalp, Dr. Hellman completes the hair restoration treatment in under a half hour. PRP is a truly scarless procedure that offers patients the most satisfactory results and fewer risks than traditional hair restoration procedures.

Not all doctors are able to offer this state of the art technology. PRP hair rejuvenation is better than hair transplants since there is no scarring or surgery. Dr. Hellman is certified by the American Board of Plastic Surgery and is a member of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons.
