This Valentine's Day, let us help you look your radient best with your choice of the two most popular fillers,
Restylane and Radiesse.

Fillers: Which One Is Better For You?

Restylane and Radiesse, both dermal fillers, are among the most popular and effective ones used in the US today.

How is Restylane different from Radiesse?

Restylane is made of hyaluronic acid, a natural component of the skin, and is a soft, colorless gel.

Radiesse is made of a Calcium type substance (Calcium Hydroxy-Appetite), naturally found in our bones and skin.

Are they FDA approved?

Yes, both are approved for the correction of facial creases.

Do they require skin tests?

No. Since both are non-allergenic, they can be used immediately, without skin testing for allergic reactions.

Are they permanent fillers?

These are not permanent, rather long lasting fillers, with Restylane lasting 8-12 months, and Radiesse known to last in some cases for a year and a half.

However, recent evidence shows that both Restylane and Radiesse stimulate the skin to make collagen around where they are placed in the skin, which effectively amounts to a "permanent" effect.

How do I chose between them?

Restylane is often used in the lips, and can give them a soft, full, sensual look. Aging causes a thining of the lips, and Restylane can easily restore the youthful shape of the mouth. It is also great for lines running from the nose to the corners of the mouth (nasolabial folds) and the marionette lines from the corners of the lips to the chin. It also works well for the deep frown lines in the forehead, when Botox alone can not do the job.

Radiesse is a "volume" filler, effectively replacing the lost areas of youthful plumpness under the skin that disappear with aging.
It is very effective in the nasolabial lines and marionette lines, but can not be injected into the lips.

The final choice between them is best made by consulting with your dermatologist, who can advise you on the appropriate choice in consideration of your age, the condition of your skin, the depth of the wrinkles and others.

One thing is certain, each can take off years and add lots of pizazz to your face!

These fillers can be easily injected over a lunch hour, and leave little if any marks right after the treatment.

Periodic re-treatments will help maintain the youthful look of the face, and combining them with Botox, lasers and good facial skincare can increase the overall effect greatly.

"Dear Dr. Hellman,

I love the treatment! You are an artist. I had no bruising or marks, just lots of swelling for 2 days, which you completely warned me about, and which I iced continuously. After 2 days, it was almost completely gone and I woke up Saturday to a refreshed, lifted, younger face. I think you are the best! Thanks again, and I hope your holiday was beautiful.

Warmly,
N.P."
