Large Pores | Treatment with NYC Dermatologist

What Causes Large Pores?

There are a variety of potential causes for enlarged pores, some of which can be attributed to clinical causes such as high sebum excretion, decreased elasticity around the pores and increased hair follicle volume. Furthermore, there are also several non-clinical factors that can cause large pores, including:

  • Chronic recurrent acne
  • Hormones that are associated with sex such as estrogen and testosterone
  • An inadequate skin care regimen

All of these different possible causes mean that it is essential to develop individualized treatments for each patient in order to effectively reduce the size of their enlarged pores.

Large Pores Treatment Options | How to Get Rid of Large Pores

Upon consultation, Dr. Hellman will evaluate your skin condition and suggest one or more of the following treatment options, which are listed below in order of potency (and downtime):

  • Glycolic Peel
A gentle treatment with natural ingredients. It can cleanse pores but will not solve the underlying condition.
  • Morpheus 8
A new technology that allows Dr. Hellman to target superficial and possibly deeper skin layers to minimize pores, based on each patient’s condition. Treatments vary in energy levels and are calibrated to match the patient’s needs. The downtime can be 0-5 days, depending on the strength of the treatment and the individual patient.
  • UltraPulse Laser Peel
An ablative laser treatment that peels away the outer skin layers in order to encourage the body to produce new, better looking skin with fewer visible pores. Treatment can be divided to a few sessions, each resulting in 3-5 days of downtime.

These treatments can also improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, and in some cases even skin tone and remove blemishes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the best skin care routine for large pores?

A general skin care routine for large pores includes cleansing with a gentle cleanser, exfoliating with a scrub once or twice a week, and moisturizing with an oil-free product that won’t clog your pores. At Hellman Dermatology we can put together a personalized skin care routine that best meets the needs of your skin.

What are clogged pores?

Clogged pores are caused when dirt, sebum, and bacteria block the openings of hair follicles.

Does vaseline clog pores?

Vaseline is a non-comedogenic product, and while it may make your skin feel a bit oily, it will not clog your pores. However, consult us at Hellman Dermatology for a skin evaluation if you are concerned about the use of vaseline on your skin, especially if you have acne-prone or oily skin.

I have clogged pores on my breasts, can you treat it?

The treatment for clogged breast pores will depend on the underlying cause thereof. Dr. Judith Hellman can assist with a personalized treatment plan once she’s evaluated your skin – contact us to book your appointment!
